We are looking at Jesus today, our greatest ambition is to become as he is. Jesus is first, everything He wants us to be and He does first everything He wants us to do. Jesus is God’s prototype for humanity; God took a man from the earth and set Him in Glory. God raised Jesus from the lowest place to the highest place. This should birth hope in us. If the power of the cross doesn’t work in me, I wouldn’t be what I am today. I am what I am by the grace of God. We are not becoming the best of ‘ourselves’; we are called to become like HIM. God has set Christ as an example for us. To be as he is, we need to gaze upon him.

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set at the right hand of the throne of God.

The power to change is not in your determination, it happens as you behold. There are laws that hinder us, but those laws can be broken as we gaze. The brazen serpent was raised in the wilderness for the people to behold. As we gaze upon him, we are changed.

John 6:57

As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father…

Jesus, in His earthly life proceeded from the Father and was sustained by the Father. The word Father, in Greek, means ‘source and sustainer‘. It is not enough for Him to be a source; He must also be the sustainer. The Father is the one who raises, nurtures, covers etc. God is not just a donor of the seed of the Holy Ghost in our lives; He is the source and sustainer. Jesus understood this. His life power was the Father.  That was the energy that propped His life.

Psalm 22:9-10

But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts. I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

Psalm twenty-two is a messianic psalm. The above scripture shows the dependence of Jesus upon the Father. Jesus did not depend on Himself to be saved, to give shape to His identity. Instead He lived a life that penetrated the heavens and reached the presence of God. While on earth, He understood that the Father could sustain life.
